Travatan 2.5 ml Eye Drops:-

Travatan 2.5 ml is a prescription eye drop solution containing travoprost as its active ingredient. Travoprost belongs to a well-established group of eye medicines called prostaglandin analogues, which have been used by ophthalmologists for many years to help manage pressure inside the eye.

Each compact Travatan 2.5 ml bottle holds a sterile, carefully measured solution designed to work effectively with just one drop per eye per day. The formulation is straightforward to use and fits easily into a daily routine, making it a practical long-term treatment option for patients managing ongoing eye pressure conditions.

Uses of Travatan 2.5 ml Travoprost:-

Travatan 2.5 ml eye drops are prescribed for two closely related eye conditions:

  • Open-angle glaucoma — the most common form of glaucoma, where the eye’s drainage channels gradually become less efficient, causing fluid to build up and silently raise pressure inside the eye. Over time, this pressure can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss.
  • Ocular hypertension — when the pressure inside the eye is measured to be above the normal safe range, even if the optic nerve has not yet been visibly affected.

Both conditions require consistent, long-term management. Travatan helps by keeping eye pressure at a safer level to protect your sight over time.

Benefits of Travatan 2.5 ml Travoprost:-

  • Clinically proven to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) effectively
  • Just one drop per eye each evening — simple to remember and easy to maintain
  • Provides stable, 24-hour pressure control throughout the day and night
  • Suitable for ongoing, long-term use as part of a managed eye care plan
  • Small, discreet bottle that is easy to store and carry
  • Well-tolerated by most patients when used as directed

How does Travatan 2.5 ml Work?

Your eye continuously produces a clear fluid called aqueous humour. This fluid normally flows through the eye and drains away through a network of small channels, keeping the internal pressure balanced. When those channels become slow or partially blocked — as in glaucoma — the fluid cannot drain fast enough, and pressure rises.

Travoprost works by activating specific receptors in the eye that open up an extra drainage route called the uveoscleral pathway. This gives the excess fluid an additional way to escape, reducing the overall volume inside the eye and bringing pressure down to a safer level. Lower pressure means less strain on the optic nerve, helping to slow or prevent further damage to your vision.

How to Use?

  1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching the bottle
  2. If you wear contact lenses, remove them now before applying the drops
  3. Tilt your head back gently and pull your lower eyelid down to form a small pocket
  4. Hold the bottle upside down just above your eye — do not allow the tip to touch your eye or eyelashes
  5. Squeeze the bottle softly to release one single drop into the lower eyelid pocket
  6. Close your eye and press lightly on the inner corner near your nose for one to two minutes — this prevents the medicine from draining into your throat via the tear duct
  7. If both eyes need treatment, repeat the same steps for the other eye
  8. Screw the cap back on firmly after use
  9. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting contact lenses

If you use other eye drops, allow a minimum of five minutes between different products.

Dosage of Travatan 2.5 ml Travoprost:-

The standard prescribed dose for adults is one drop into the affected eye or eyes, once daily in the evening. Using it at the same time each night helps maintain consistent pressure control.

Do not apply more than one drop per eye per day. Using extra drops will not improve the result and may increase the chance of side effects.

Missed dose: If you forget, apply the drop as soon as you remember on the same day. If you only realise the next day, skip the missed dose and carry on with your normal evening routine. Never use two drops at once to make up for a missed one.

Side Effects of Travatan 2.5 ml Travoprost:-

Like all medicines, Travatan 2.5 ml can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Most are mild and affect the eye itself.

Common side effects:

  • Redness of the eye, particularly in the early weeks of treatment
  • A brief stinging, burning, or gritty sensation when the drop is first applied
  • Gradual, permanent darkening of the iris (the coloured part of the eye) — more likely in people with mixed-colour eyes such as hazel or blue-green
  • Eyelashes becoming longer, thicker, or darker over time
  • Mild darkening of the skin around the eyelids
  • Dry or watery eyes

Side effects that need medical attention:

  • Blurred vision that does not clear within a short time
  • Swelling, pain, or discharge from the eye
  • Signs of eye infection or unusual sensitivity to light

Contact your doctor, pharmacist, or optician promptly if you experience any of the above or anything that concerns you.

Precautions & Safety:-

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Travatan 2.5 ml is not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor before starting this medicine.

Driving and Machinery Your vision may be temporarily blurred after applying the drops. Do not drive, cycle, or operate machinery until your sight has fully cleared.

Contact Lens Wearers Always remove contact lenses before applying Travatan and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in. Some formulations contain preservatives that soft lenses can absorb, which may cause irritation.

Other Eye Conditions or Surgery Tell your doctor if you have had recent eye surgery or have a history of uveitis, macular oedema, or any other ongoing eye condition, as these may affect whether Travatan is right for you.

Other Medicines Always inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you take, including other eye drops, tablets, vitamins, and herbal products.

Allergies Do not use Travatan if you are allergic to travoprost or any of the other listed ingredients. Stop using it and seek medical advice immediately if you notice signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling, severe irritation, or difficulty breathing.

Storage:-

  • Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Do not freeze or refrigerate
  • Keep the cap tightly closed after every use
  • Once opened, discard the bottle after 4 weeks — even if liquid remains
  • Keep out of the reach of children
  • Do not use after the expiry date on the label or carton
  • Ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of unused medicines

FAQs of Travatan 2.5 ml Travoprost?

Q: Can I use Travatan with other glaucoma eye drops?

A: Sometimes yes — doctors do prescribe more than one type of drop to control eye pressure. Always leave at least five minutes between different eye drops, and never add or change any medicine without checking with your doctor first.

Q: Why should I apply Travatan 2.5 ml in the evening?

A: Clinical evidence shows travoprost works best when used at night, aligning with the body’s natural eye pressure patterns which tend to rise during sleep. Your doctor may advise a specific time that suits your routine.

Q: Is the iris colour change harmful to my vision?

A: No. The gradual darkening of the iris is a cosmetic change and does not affect how well you can see. However, it is usually permanent, so do mention it to your doctor so it can be recorded.

Q: What should I do if I accidentally put two drops in at once?

A: A double dose is unlikely to cause serious harm, but rinse your eye gently with clean water and skip that evening’s dose. If you feel unusual pain or notice persistent blurring, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Q: How long does one bottle last?

A: One Travatan 2.5 ml bottle typically lasts around four weeks when treating both eyes once daily, or up to eight weeks for one eye only. Discard the bottle four weeks after opening regardless of how much is left.
